Having only been founded for just over
50 years, Hucknall Town have, in that time, achieved considerable
success, despite the fact that their first piece of silverware
did not arrive at the club until 1963 when they won the
Notts Junior Cup. From then on a series of trophies followed.
After joining the Bulwell and District League in 1964
the club won the league and cup double twice in consecutive
seasons.
A
change of divisions into the Notts Alliance League in
1970 saw continued success. The club gained promotion
from the Second Division and then won the First Division
and the League Cup. Moving then to the Senior Division,
Hucknall Town won the title twice more and another League
Cup by 1980.
After
entering the Central Midlands League in 1989, the club,
once again, achieved a back to back league and cup double
and in 1992 they completed a hat-trick of League Cups.
However, the best was yet to come. In the 1997/98 season,
by now in the NECL Premier League, the club won the treble
by winning not only the title but the League Cup and the
Notts Senior Cup as well.
In
the summer of 1999 the club also completed necessary ground
improvements to ensure entry into the Unibond Premier
Division. After a respectable tenth place finish in 2001
the club struggled at the start of he following season
and were in danger of relegation. However, a much improved
second half to the season saw Hucknall achieve mid table
safety. They improved slightly the following season finishing
eighth, although, manager Phil Starbuck left the club
in June an was replaced by former Nuneaton boss Steve
Burr. That seemed to do the trick as Hucknall then won
the Premier Division by nine points the following season.
However, they couldn't take their place in the Conference
due to a lack of ground grading but their first place
was enough to seal them a berth in the new Conference
North. Steve Burr left the club in June and was replaced
by Ernie Moss after his departure from Matlock Town.
